A new limited-time art show in Brooklyn explores the line between earthly and spiritual as well as the axis within the space.

From now through Oct. 17, Medium Rare Project Space will host “Irit Baniel & Alexis Granwell: PLUMB LINE,” highlighting the tension between presence and repose. Curated by Narelle Sissons, cofounder of Medium Rare Project Space, the exhibition features the works of painter Irit Baniel, who is also the cofounder of Medium Rare Project Space, and sculptor Alexis Granwell.

Baniel’s paintings take on a range of expressions, from 30-foot-tall works to small object paintings. Her works in Plumb Line look at the tension between horizontal and vertical and how it leans into the weight of the earth and the body, focusing on events that took place during a specific time period, including prolonged periods of illness and the deaths of loved ones.

Granwell’s works displayed in the exhibition take on presence and repose and weight and suspension. She takes paper pulp to transform it into a form that explores the movement between sensation and meaning, evoking feelings such as anxiety, loss and pleasure.

The exhibition is open to the public on weekends from 1 – 4 p.m. or by appointment, which can be scheduled by messaging Baniel on Instagram (@irit_baniel). On the last day of the show, Oct. 17, there will be an artist talk with Baniel and Granwell at the gallery from 4 – 6 p.m.

Medium Rare Project Space is located at 68 Jay St. in Dumbo.
