Brendan Lambe had a goal and two assists in an early flurry for Virginia, which held on as Queens scored twice in the final seven minutes, in a 4-3 Cavaliers’ victory on Tuesday at Klöckner Stadium.

The win was the 400th career victory for UVA coach George Gelnovatch.

The ‘Hoos (5-5-1, 2-2 ACC) took the lead in the sixth minute when Lambe flicked on a ball in the penalty area that was put home by the left foot of Arnold Matshazi.

Queens answered just as quickly when Iker Carew tapped home a rebound from a corner kick in the seventh minute.

Ten minutes later, Virginia went back in front when a pinpoint cross from Marco Dos Santos found the head of Zachary Ehrenpreis, who placed it in the bottom corner to score his first career goal.

A spectacular solo effort from Lambe minutes later gave Virginia a 3-1 advantage they would take to the halftime break.

Queens (3-6-2, 2-1-2 ASUN) would cut the lead back to just one goal on two occasions in the second half. Goals from Joseph van Straten and Michel Tzimoulis sandwiched a breakaway chance that was put away by AJ Smith after a quick one-two with Bacary Tandjigora.
