Police late Wednesday arrested the man they say pushed a 23-year-old mother and their 8-month-old baby girl from a Bronx balcony, killing the woman and leaving the baby in critical condition.
After a nearly two-day search, police found 31-year-old Angel Carrasco at a friend’s house in the same neighborhood where the incident happened early Tuesday morning, NYPD officials said.
He was charged around 10:20 p.m. with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault, according to police.
NYPD officials said Carrasco shoved Nathaly Ramirez and their infant daughter they shared from a 15th-floor balcony in an apartment building on Olinville Avenue in Allerton. Neighbors said they heard screaming and commotion late at night, but weren’t sure exactly what was happening. They also said Carrasco fit the description of Ramirez’ boyfriend.
Police discovered Ramirez and their child on the ground in the back of the building around 3:30 a.m., with severe injuries consistent with a fall from high up. Ramirez was pronounced dead at Jacobi Hospital where the baby remained critically injured, officials said. The child was briefly upgraded to stable condition on Wednesday, but was back in critical condition as of Thursday.
Carrasco was still at the precinct stationhouse early Thursday morning, and was scheduled to be transferred to Bronx criminal court for an arraignment later in the day. Information for his lawyer was not immediately available.
Police said Carrasco and Ramirez were a couple, and said that Carrasco was previously arrested in January for hitting her.
