A number of events are planned across Western New York for Veterans Day on Tuesday, Nov. 11.
Flags will be placed on the graves of service men and women at Forest Lawn Cemetery and Lakeside Cemetery in Hamburg early Tuesday.
There will be a ceremony at West Seneca Veterans Memorial Park at the Walkway of Freedom at 11 a.m.
There will be a keynote address at the Kenmore Tonawanda Municipal Building at 11 a.m., which will be delivered by a veteran from the Town of Tonawanda.
Veterans will receive free admission all day at the Buffalo and Erie County Naval & Military Park. There will be a Veterans Day ceremony in the Hangar Building at 10 a.m. and an outdoor ceremony will take place at the Hispanic American Veterans Memorial at 12 p.m.
Batavia Downs will offer a complimentary meal to Veterans & Active-Duty Members at 34 Rush. The offer is good between noon – 6 p.m. and includes the choice of one of four menu items.
The University at Buffalo will host a Veterans Day ceremony to honor UB veterans at 11 a.m. Remarks and refreshments will take place in the Buffalo Room (ground floor of Capen Hall). This event is open to the public.
The Town of Grand Island will host a Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Park Memorial Wall in Veterans Park. There will be a reception following the ceremony at Charles N. DeGlopper Post No. 9249.
The Town of Niagara will honor veterans at a ceremony and luncheon starting at 11 a.m. at Veterans Memorial Community Park. A buffet lunch will follow in the Calvin K. Richards Community Center. All veterans are invited to attend. Included will be a presentation of the colors, opening prayers and a pledge to the flag, followed by singing of the national anthem. The speaker for this event will be Kristin Jacobsen, founder/president of Hands Healing Heroes.
Veterans Day services for the Town of Wheatfield will start at 11 a.m. at the Wheatfield Veterans Memorial. The event will see observances by Wheatfield American Legion Post 1451 members at the town’s new veterans memorial. A flag retirement ceremony will be held at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Post in Sanborn.
