WESTCHESTER SQUARE, Bronx (WABC) — A 12-year-old girl was hospitalized in stable condition after she was struck by gunfire during a shooting in the Bronx, police said.
The shooting happened around 8:30 p.m. Monday near Pearly Gates Park on Troutman Avenue between Roland Street and St. Peters Avenue in the Westchester Square section of the borough.
According to investigators, the girl was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire of what police believe may have been a gang-related shootout.
The child was shot in the torso and right foot. She was taken to a hospital, where she was undergoing surgery Tuesday morning. Police said she was listed in stable condition.
Investigators continued processing a large crime scene Tuesday morning as they worked to determine exactly what happened. Police had two separate locations taped off as part of the investigation.
No arrests had been made as of Tuesday morning. Police said they are searching for two gunmen believed to be about 18 years old who fled toward Zerega Avenue. The suspects were last seen wearing all black.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact police.
