What happens when your friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man gets a street named after him? Well, Queens has officially given its favourite fictional superhero a permanent place on the map! New York City has co-named a portion of Ingram Street in Forest Hills, Queens, as ‘Spider-Man Way’, celebrating the deep local roots of Marvel’s iconic web-slinger. The historic street sign stands at the intersection of Ingram Street and Ascan Avenue, just steps away from 20 Ingram Street, the address established in the 1989 comic books as the childhood home of Peter Parker and Aunt May.

Created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko in 1962, Spider-Man was introduced as a resident of Forest Hills, making Queens an integral part of his story. However, it was a comic-book issue in 1989 that gave the superhero’s fictional life a remarkably precise address: 20 Ingram Street. Talk about having your superhero identity firmly on the neighbourhood map!

And here is where fiction gets even more fascinating. The two-storey house at 20 Ingram Street actually exists in real life. Its homeowner has revealed that fans regularly stop by to photograph the property, while the mailbox continues to receive dozens of fan-mail letters addressed to Peter Parker every month. One can only imagine the postman’s reaction to delivering correspondence to a superhero who probably has more important things to do than check his mail!

The honorary street-naming proposal was passed by New York City in July 2026. Championing the initiative was City Council Member Lynn Schulman, with support from State Assembly Member Sam Berger, celebrating the borough’s pride in its beloved fictional resident.

While Spider-Man has spent decades swinging between skyscrapers, fighting villains and saving New York, this latest honour brings him closer to home. Forest Hills can now proudly claim a little piece of Marvel history, proving that superheroes do not always need monuments or movie premieres to make their mark.

Sometimes, all it takes is a street sign, a childhood address and a friendly neighbourhood legend.
