Art lovers will appreciate the prewar proportions of this Park Avenue duplex.

Spanning the seventh and eighth floors of 730 Park Avenue, an elegant prewar cooperative at the corner of East 71st Street, the duplex is reached by private elevator. Expertly restored and updated with custom finishes and modern conveniences, such as air conditioning, Lutron lighting, and sound and shade control systems, the residence features five bedrooms and six bathrooms, plus a powder room, in over 5,400 square feet with more than 50 feet of east-facing frontage along Park Avenue.

The 19-story building dates to 1928, designed by architects F. Burrall Hoffman, Jr, and Lafayette A. Goldstone with Jacobean and Tudor architectural elements. Many of its original details, from formal entry galleries and large terraces to ornate moldings and herringbone floors, remain.

Beyond the seventh floor’s private landing, a 27-foot-long entrance gallery with a spiral staircase connecting the two floors provides ample space for paintings and sculptures. The gallery opens onto a spacious living room with a black-and-white marble fireplace and a formal dining room. The library, which has a second fireplace, leads to a dedicated office space that connects to a den through a richly appointed wet bar with a stone countertop. The kitchen incorporates a breakfast area with built-in seating.

All five bedrooms are upstairs, including three secondary bedrooms with private baths. A separate staff suite is also located on this level. Natural light pools into the fireside primary suite bedroom, illuminating cream silk-colored walls and a sitting area. Two marble baths and two fitted dressing rooms complete the suite.
