New York is uniting for contemporary art this fall.
Art Week NYC today announced the cultural institutions and nonprofit organizations participating in its first citywide event, taking place in the Big Apple from November 11 to 14.
The inaugural edition, presented by Artforum, ARTnews, and Art in America, will feature more than 80 galleries across Chelsea, Tribeca, the Lower East Side, the Upper East Side, and beyond, giving audiences a chance to experience the respective programming as part of one interconnected art week. Participating cultural institutions and nonprofits include buzzy landmarks like the Guggenheim, the Met, and the Whitney, as well as more intimate spots such as White Columns, Fountain House Gallery, and Vilcek Foundation. (The full list is below.)
“New York City‘s world-renowned galleries and museums draw art lovers from all over the globe, but they belong first and foremost to the New Yorkers who live here,” Julie Menin, speaker of the New York City Council, said in a statement. “Art Week NYC opens the door for our city’s own artists and art lovers to support and be inspired by the creative institutions in our own backyard.”

Throughout the week, participating institutions will present exhibitions and special programming across New York, allowing audiences to appreciate art not only in the gallery districts but also in the broader city.
“New York City’s cultural landscape is one of our greatest strengths, but it only thrives when New Yorkers are able to experience it, explore it, and see themselves as part of it,” adds deputy speaker Nantasha Williams. “A thriving cultural ecosystem creates opportunities on both sides: greater visibility and new audiences for artists, and greater access for New Yorkers to the range of art being created and presented across our city.”
Art Week NYC will culminate with a full day of public programming presented in partnership with Artforum and the New Museum, Art Week’s primary institutional partner. Taking place at the New Museum Theater on November 14, the event includes five talks around the theme “Art and the City” in which artists, architects, filmmakers, critics, and writers will examine the forces shaping art and culture in New York. Discussions will cover the redesign of notable museum spaces across New York, the economic conditions working artists face in the city, the impact of machine intelligence on studio practice, and the growing number of artists moving into filmmaking.
“Art Week NYC is a new initiative that brings the art world together, in a city that has been historically shaped and transformed by artists,” said the New Museum’s Toby Devan Lewis director Massimiliano Gioni. “We are thrilled that the New Museum will be at its center, as a catalyst for dialogues between artists, architects, curators, filmmakers, and the public: we have always thought of our institution as a place of encounters and conversations—a public plaza for new ideas.”
Additional programming and VIP experiences will be announced on the Art Week NYC website.
