The U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of New York announced that five non-citizens, including a Canadian national from Tupper Lake, have been arrested for voter fraud.

Officials said all five defendants are permanent U.S. residents. However, because they are not U.S. citizens, they are not allowed to vote in federal, state, and most local elections.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office alleges that all five individuals knew they were not permitted to vote.

If convicted, the defendants could face up to a year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
