A Brooklyn man employed by a Long Island sleep center was expecting to get probation Wednesday for secretly recording patients and co-workers in the bathroom, but he may also get jail time later this month.

Sanjai Syamaprasad pleaded guilty in July after he was accused of illegally taping children and adults while working as a sleep technician at the Northwell Health Sleep Disorders Center in Great Neck.

The 47-year-old defendant allegedly affixed hidden cameras disguised as smoke detectors inside staff and multiple patient bathrooms between July 2023 and April 2024. Syamaprasad was later caught watching those videos on a work computer and was fired from his job.

Prosecutors said those cameras recorded “hundreds of individuals” using those facilities, however authorities were only able charge him with five counts of unlawful surveillance — one of which involved a child — and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Despite Nassau County prosecutors recommending Syamaprasad be sentenced to one to three years in prison for each of the charges he faced, he was only expected to receive five years probation, in

However, according to CBS News, a judge is now considering sentencing him to spend time in jail, in addition to receiving probation and likely being required to register as a sex offender.

Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly feels time behind bars is warranted.

“It was night after night after night, victim after victim after victim,” she said.

ABC News reported in July that roughly 250 people filed a civil lawsuit against Northwell Health because of Syamaprasad’s alleged actions.
