CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Brown Women’s Rugby team (2-3) defeated Queens (2-3), 38-17, on the road on Sunday afternoon.

“The team really brought intensity today and we got to see eight of our nine freshmen get significant playing time making a huge impact,” Kathleen Flores Women’s Rugby Head Coach Rosalind Chou said. “In the backs, Giselle Long and Angie Bazzoni found a lot of open space for line breaks and Naomi Van Zandt gave us go forward on attack and physicality on defense”. “We are very happy with how they’re building chemistry.”

Queens scored first with a try to put them up 5-0 before Brown stormed back to build a huge lead, 24-5, scoring 24 unanswered points. Caitlin Moroney got the Bears on the board with a try and Valentine Detheux, Charlotte Davies, and Lauren Huang contributed to that lead build with tries and conversions. To finish out the game, Naomi Van Zandt, Lily McGettigan, and Giselle Long, added tries and conversions of their own, to propel the Bears to a well-earned victory.

Brown will return home on Saturday, Oct. 24 to compete against Southern Nazarene at 12 p.m. on Berylson Family Fields.
