“Following yesterday’s ICE arrest in Jersey City, my team and I have been in contact with the family and pressing authorities for answers. Let’s be clear: ICE’s relentless targeting of our neighbors does nothing to make our communities safer,” U.S. Rep. Rob Menendez (D-8) wrote on social media late this afternoon.

“I urge every resident to know your rights when interacting with ICE. If you need immediate assistance or help with an immigration issue, contact our office at http://menendez.house.gov. We are here to serve you, to stand with our neighbors, and to protect our communities as we will continue fighting to abolish ICE.”

Details of the arrest remain scarce as of early Sunday evening, but Spirit of Liberation Jersey City posted in an Instagram story that ICE agents were outside of Tacos Victoria, located at 324 1/2 7th St., Saturday around 4:40 p.m.

Pictures and videos of the arrest show a man wearing a pink t-shirt and black track pants with a green stripe being pulled out of a white care by five ICE agents before being placed in a black vehicle before driving away.

ICE did not return an email seeking comment, while multiple Jersey City officials said they were unaware of any details of the incident.
