WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – More than a thousand guests have made for a busy first weekend at Zoo New York’s biggest yearly fundraiser, Boo at the Zoo.
The zoo’s Halloween festivities began Saturday, running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Attendees spent the afternoon checking out the animals, grabbing candy, and enjoying some of the crafts; all regular staples of Boo at the Zoo.
Saturday, zoo officials said they saw close to 700 guests.
Sunday they reached close to 700 guests by mid afternoon, a great first weekend if you ask the zoo’s new acting executive director Kathryn Allen, who’s eager to put the money from this weekend toward helping the animals.
“Of course our animals are not inexpensive, so whether it is the vet care that pops up, whether it is the yearly exams or physicals, vaccinations, and it also goes to some of the fun parts of the animals,” said Allen. “So our enrichment and the different toys you may see in the habitat with them.“
Boo at the Zoo continues next weekend. Adults get into the zoo for $12, kids for $9. Trick or treating for Boo at the Zoo is an extra $5 on top of that.
Allen says they saw 2,000 guests last year, and hope to beat that number this year.
