PARAMUS, New Jersey — A 31-year-old Bronx woman died after being struck by a vehicle following a crash on Route 17 in Paramus, New Jersey, authorities said.
Krisiann Reyes Rivera was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries.
Estuardo Rodriguez, 31, of Tarrytown, New York, faces multiple charges in connection with her death.
The incident happened just after 5 p.m. Monday on Route 17 southbound. The Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office said Rodriguez was driving an Acura SUV towing a U-Haul trailer when he struck the back of a Buick Enclave in which Rivera was a passenger.
Rivera got out of the Buick and approached Rodriguez’s vehicle, banging on the car. Court documents say Rodriguez accelerated to leave, and the rear tires of the trailer ran over Rivera, causing fatal injuries.
Police said a group of civilians cornered Rodriguez’s vehicle about a half-mile from the scene and remained there until officers arrived.
Authorities allege Rodriguez was also driving under the influence of alcohol.
Rodriguez made a court appearance and will remain in custody until his next court appearance Friday, Oct. 23.
He faces multiple charges, including death by auto, leaving the scene of an accident and driving with a suspended license. His attorney entered a not guilty plea on his behalf.
