Members of the Albany Police Department discovered what appears to be human remains while executing a search warrant Tuesday morning for a woman who has been missing for 16 years.

Ashley Carroll, of Troy, disappeared at the age of 24 after she was last seen with a friend near the corner of Lake and Central avenues in Albany in 2010.

Albany police said they executed a search warrant related to her disappearance Tuesday at 7 Marlborough Court in the city, and located the apparent remains inside a shed on the property.

“At this time the investigation remains active and ongoing,” police said. “The identification of the remains is pending further investigation.”
