Following a council hearing on Tuesday, members of the City Council are considering legislation with the aim of implementing more transparency around ambulance wait times.

A recent report from the city comptroller’s office found that ambulance response times in the city increased by nearly four minutes from 2015 to 2026. Responses for non-emergencies doubled to nearly 15 minutes.

Fire department and EMS personnel testified that many have tried to sound the alarm about wait times, but they say those warnings haven’t led to enough action.

Rafael Mangual, head of research for the Manhattan Institute’s Policing and Public Safety Initiative, joined “The Rush Hour” on Wednesday to discuss the issue.
