Queen have announced two special vinyl editions of their fifth studio album, A Day at the Races, to celebrate its 50th anniversary. The reissues will arrive December 11, 2026, through Sony Music Entertainment and Hollywood Records, almost 50 years to the day after the album’s original release on December 10, 1976.
The anniversary editions will be available on limited-edition blue marbled vinyl and a picture disc exclusive to the official Queen Store. Both versions are available for pre-order now.
Recorded during the summer and autumn of 1976, A Day at the Races was Queen’s first self-produced album, with engineering handled by Mike Stone. Its title, like that of its predecessor, A Night at the Opera, was inspired by a Marx Brothers film.
The album features several of the band’s best-known songs, including “Somebody to Love,” “Tie Your Mother Down” and “Good Old-Fashioned Lover Boy,” alongside fan favorites such as “Long Away” and “Teo Torriatte (Let Us Cling Together).”
“Somebody to Love,” released as the album’s lead single, became one of Queen’s signature tracks, featuring layered vocal harmonies inspired by gospel music. “Tie Your Mother Down,” written by Brian May, also became a regular part of the band’s live performances.
A Day at the Races reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 5 on the Billboard 200 in the United States. The record also became Queen’s first American album to achieve Gold certification before eventually reaching Platinum status.
The album’s 50th anniversary editions retain the original 10-song track listing, including “The Millionaire Waltz,” “White Man” and “Drowse.”
