EAST FISHKILL – A Brooklyn man was taken into custody in Brewster after allegedly fleeing a traffic stop on the Taconic State Parkway in East Fishkill and leading police on a 15-mile pursuit.

State Police on Wednesday announced the arrest of Tyrike Gibbs, 36, on multiple felony charges after he was allegedly found with 5,455 grams of fentanyl, according to Troop K Public Information Officer Trooper Krystal Paolicelli.

Police said when Gibbs failed to comply with a trooper, the pursuit ensued eastbound on Interstate 84. During the chase, the driver’s side tire of the vehicle failed, disabling the car. Gibbs’ Nissan ultimately came to rest on Route 6 near Simpson Road in Brewster.

Paolicelli said during the investigation, State Police K9 Wild conducted an exterior sniff of the vehicle and provided a positive alert for the odor of narcotics. A subsequent probable cause search revealed the large cache of narcotics.

Gibbs was charged with Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance, Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Sell, and Unlawful Fleeing a Police Officer in a Motor Vehicle.

Gibbs was arraigned in Southeast Court and remanded to the Putnam County Jail without bail.

The top charge carries a maximum of 25 years to life in prison if found guilty.
