Queens Of The Stone Age have found a particularly excellent way to make a rock concert even louder: invite Pixies along for the ride. Josh Homme and company have announced a 16-date U.S. arena tour for May 2027 in support of their upcoming album ‘Perfecth’, bringing the influential alternative rock band and experimental hip-hop trio Wheelchair Sports Camp along for every show. The run begins May 1 at San Diego’s Viejas Arena and concludes May 24 at Boston’s TD Garden, with stops at some of America’s most recognizable concert venues along the way.

It’s a lineup with enough personality to make an entire evening feel like a small alternative music festival.

Queens Of The Stone Age have spent nearly 30 years developing one of rock’s most distinctive sounds, combining hypnotic riffs, unpredictable rhythms and the kind of strange, danceable grooves that somehow make heavy guitars feel sophisticated and slightly dangerous.

Pixies, meanwhile, helped establish the loud-quiet-loud dynamics that influenced generations of alternative rock musicians. Putting both bands on the same bill creates an opportunity to hear 2 very different approaches to making guitar music sound gloriously unpredictable.

And then there’s Denver’s Wheelchair Sports Camp, whose adventurous combination of hip-hop, jazz and experimental sounds adds a completely different musical vocabulary to the evening.

The trio’s inclusion is particularly interesting for the May 12 performance at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre, where they’ll join Queens Of The Stone Age and Pixies for a hometown-area appearance.

The newly announced concerts support ‘Perfecth’, the band’s ninth studio album, arriving October 30 through Matador Records.

Produced by Homme and Queens Of The Stone Age bassist Michael Shuman, the nine-song collection follows 2023’s ‘In Times New Roman…’ and explores different forms of love, relationships and the difficult experiences that shape them.

The project draws inspiration from kintsugi, the Japanese practice of repairing broken pottery with gold, allowing the cracks and imperfections to become part of the object’s beauty.

It’s an appropriate concept for a band whose best music has often emerged from tension, experimentation and unexpected combinations of sounds.

The album explores love in several forms, from romantic relationships and family connections to friendships and the complicated attachments that can leave people feeling considerably less composed than they’d like.

Homme has described the record as an attempt to connect those different emotions through songs that inhabit their own distinct musical worlds.

That approach fits comfortably within Queens Of The Stone Age’s history.

The band has rarely seemed particularly interested in repeating the same formula, moving between desert rock, alternative metal, psychedelic experimentation and surprisingly melodic pop instincts while maintaining a recognizable musical identity.

Even at their most accessible, there’s usually something unusual happening underneath the surface.

The new album has already introduced listeners to several different sides of its sound.

“Easy Street”, featuring country singer Nikki Lane, offered an early preview of the record, followed by “Insignificant Other” and “Where The Goth Girls At?”

The latter received its live debut on October 21 when Queens Of The Stone Age appeared on ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’, giving television audiences a taste of the new material ahead of the album’s arrival.

It’s the sort of song title that feels completely at home in the band’s catalogue, combining dark humour with the promise of something musically eccentric.

The upcoming tour will bring those recordings into venues significantly larger than the intimate clubs associated with the band’s early years.

The itinerary opens with four California dates, including performances at the Kia Forum in Inglewood, Oakland Arena and Sacramento’s Golden 1 Center.

From there, the tour travels through Seattle, Portland, Salt Lake City and Morrison, Colorado, where the band will perform at Red Rocks.

A concert at Red Rocks is already a memorable experience, with towering sandstone formations creating one of the most dramatic natural settings in live music. Add the unpredictable intensity of Queens Of The Stone Age and Pixies, and the evening becomes an especially intriguing prospect.

The tour continues through Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana and Ohio before visiting Pittsburgh, Detroit and Boston.

The Detroit performance on May 22 at Little Caesars Arena represents another significant arena date for the band, while the final announced show at TD Garden brings the run to a substantial conclusion.

These dates are part of a wider international touring schedule.

Queens Of The Stone Age will finish 2026 with performances in Iceland, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, Australia and New Zealand, before travelling to Mexico and South America in March 2027.

The band is scheduled to appear with Interpol in Mexico City on March 6, followed by appearances at Lollapalooza festivals in Argentina, Chile and Brazil.

Additional 2027 headline performances are expected to be announced.

The touring announcement arrives just ahead of ‘Perfecth’ hitting stores and streaming services, with the band also planning special HalloQueen retail events on October 31.

The Halloween celebrations will give fans opportunities to hear the new record, find exclusive merchandise and purchase a limited-edition picture disc at participating retailers.

It’s a fitting way to introduce an album from a band that has always enjoyed combining dark imagery with a playful sense of humour.

And the full nine-song track listing suggests another unpredictable musical journey.

Titles including “Mono”, “Phantom Limb” and “Run Away From The Mob” sit alongside “It’s Only Love” and “Sunday”, hinting at a record interested in several different emotional temperatures.

The album’s central theme of repair and transformation also suggests that Queens Of The Stone Age are approaching their latest chapter with a willingness to examine the experiences that have shaped them.

That creative direction makes the pairing with Pixies especially compelling.

Both groups understand how to make strange musical ideas feel irresistible, although their approaches are markedly different.

Pixies helped develop a musical language of explosive contrasts, unconventional melodies and surreal imagery that became enormously influential during alternative rock’s rise.

Queens Of The Stone Age built their reputation around hypnotic repetition, thick guitar tones and carefully constructed rhythmic tension.

They share an appreciation for unpredictability and the ability to make audiences dance to music that seems determined to challenge conventional expectations.

Wheelchair Sports Camp adds another adventurous dimension, bringing a genre-crossing approach that could introduce concertgoers to sounds they might never otherwise encounter.

It’s the kind of opening act choice that makes arriving early particularly worthwhile.

For longtime Queens Of The Stone Age fans, the tour also offers an opportunity to hear the new album alongside the extensive catalogue that has made the band such a distinctive live attraction.

Their concerts have become known for muscular performances, sharp musicianship and an ability to shift between tightly controlled grooves and moments of exhilarating unpredictability.

With ‘Perfecth’ introducing another collection of songs into that environment, the 2027 performances could offer an especially interesting glimpse at how the band’s sound continues developing.

The artist presale begins October 28 at 10 a.m. local time. Fans must register by October 25 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern to participate.

General ticket sales begin October 29 at 10 a.m. local time.

Queens Of The Stone Age have spent decades demonstrating that rock music can remain adventurous without sacrificing the pleasures of a great riff.

With Pixies and Wheelchair Sports Camp joining them for 16 arena shows, their next U.S. tour promises a particularly rewarding collision of musical personalities.

And whatever direction ‘Perfecth’ takes them, it’s difficult to imagine this lineup having much interest in behaving predictably.
