PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (CBS12) — A 20-year-old Bronx, New York, man was extradited to St. Lucie County after Canadian border authorities arrested him while he was trying to enter Canada, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Gibrill Diallo faces charges of money laundering, a scheme to defraud of $50,000 or more and grand theft in connection with an investigation into a check stolen from a Port St. Lucie real estate company, according to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office.
The agency said the check was altered and deposited into a bank account opened using a stolen identity. Detectives traced the funds through multiple bank accounts and Zelle transfers before they were deposited into Diallo’s personal bank account, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Authorities arrested Diallo on Oct. 14. He was held at the Niagara County Jail in New York before being extradited to St. Lucie County on Oct. 21, according to the agency.
