STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York Yankees legend CC Sabathia will be back in the Big Apple on Nov. 2, 2025.

But it won’t be in the Bronx. Instead, he will be at the start line of the TCS New York City Marathon on Staten Island.

Sabathia, who last summer was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame, will serve as the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon Grand Marshal, according to the New York Road Runners, who run the NYC Marathon.

In this ceremonial role, Sabathia will lead the more than two million spectators lining the streets of New York City in cheering on 55,000+ marathon runners as they journey to the finish line.

“CC Sabathia is a champion on the field and a champion for our communities,” said Rob Simmelkjaer, New York Road Runners CEO. “After an incredible career as a six-time All Star and World Series champion with the Yankees, CC’s work through his PitCCh In Foundation embodies the spirit of giving back and inspiring the next generation that’s core to New York Road Runners’ nonprofit vision. We’re honored to have him leading this year’s star-studded field and inspiring runners from around the world.”

As Grand Marshal, Sabathia will greet athletes at the start line on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge race morning and celebrate runners as they cross the iconic Central Park finish line.

“New York has given me so much—from my years with the Yankees to the incredible people I’ve met since calling this city home,” said Sabathia. “Being named Grand Marshal of the TCS New York City Marathon is truly an honor. I’ve always admired the determination of every runner who takes on those 26.2 miles, and I can’t wait to cheer them on across the five boroughs and as they cross the finish line in Central Park.”

Sabathia, a southpaw, played the final 11 seasons of his career in pinstripes, winning a World Series crown with the Yankees in 2009, his first in the Bronx.

Sabathia compiled a 251-161 record in his 20-year career with a 3.74 ERA.
