Legendary choreographer, performer, actor and director Tommy Tune has listed his Manhattan penthouse, known as The Tower, for $1.99 million, Gimme Shelter can reveal.
That’s down from the Sutton Place spread’s last ask of $2.15 million — and more than a third off its original $2.99 million asking price earlier in 2025.
“It’s more reasonably priced now,” said Compass listing broker Brian K. Lewis, of the million-dollar price chop.

The beloved, Texas-born tap-dancing star bought the posh pad at 400 E. 52nd St., on a charming cul-de-sac between First Avenue and the East River, for around $1.3 million in 2007. At the time, he had been visiting his pal Shirley MacLaine in a unit below it.
The penthouse comes with a massive 1,800-square-foot wraparound terrace that’s bigger than most New York City apartments. It boasts an outdoor shower, as well as plenty of room for entertaining.
Tune hosted many events on the terrace over the years, including one for the late stage, screen and television star Carol Channing — and 200 of Channing’s and Tune’s Broadway friends. He also told Gimme that he once hosted “a very elegant party for everyone who worked in the corporate offices of Chanel because they supplied Carol Channing a lifetime of No. 5 lipstick,” he said.

Inside, the 900-square-foot apartment opens to a great room with high ceilings and large windows.
There’s also an open kitchen, one bedroom and a spa-like bath. Design details include oak plank floors and built-ins, as well as a custom art ladder that is used to display Tune’s 10 Tony Awards. It’s all underneath nearly 14-foot-high ceilings that suit his 6-foot-6-inch frame.
“The penthouse tower has served as Tommy’s creative retreat for years,” Lewis said. Indeed, Tune once told Gimme Shelter that he had painted more than 100 artworks from the apartment.

“Now he wants someone else to enjoy this unsurpassed entertaining and creative bastion,” Lewis added.
At 87, Tune is still traveling and spending time in another apartment he owns nearby. The neighborhood, he said, is the best: “I live on a dead end street where you can say hi to Uma Thurman or film genius James Ivory while walking your dog.” (Tune’s rescue dog is named Harry Connick Jr.)
