As reported by Mary Frost in the Eagle, the Federal Highway Administration will not move forward with plans advanced by the Adams mayoral administration to proceed with reconstruction of the triple cantilevered portion of the Brooklyn Queens Expressway below Brooklyn Heights, which would require complete demolition of the existing structure, including the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, and construction of a temporary bypass highway. The Eagle story quotes Councilmember Lincoln Restler:

We are relieved to share that the recent plan put forward by the New York City Department of Transportation to bind the incoming Mamdani administration to its options on the future of the BQE triple cantilever is no longer moving forward.

The Eagle also has an op-ed by Hank Gutman, former Department of Transportation Commissioner, urging further remediation work on the existing BQE structure.
