NYPD said the stabbing happened shortly after 8 p.m. Friday near Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue, and police sources said Suarez was out training for the New York City Marathon when she was attacked.
NYPD said emergency medical personnel transported Suarez to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn, where she was admitted in critical condition and remained on life support as of Sunday.
New York State Senator Steve Chan called for additional lighting along the path, saying, “They need more,” after noting that new wires had been run to that side when a foot bridge was rebuilt coming across from 17th Ave.

Suarez left her job at TD Bank at the Caesar’s Bay Shopping Center around 6:30 p.m., met with her mother close to where she worked, changed into running gear, and then began to run west along the waterfront path. Suarez’s father called around 8 p.m. to ask where she was, and Suarez told him she was a half-mile away, a distance she could run in roughly five minutes, but she never showed up. Her father went to the waterfront to search and found her with two stab wounds to her neck, and police said she was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn in critical condition.
The NYPD statement cited by The Times of India said the attack took place at around 8 p.m. local time on Friday, October 30, while Suarez was running along the Shore Parkway Greenway, and police urged the public to come forward to identify the person responsible. The New York Post reported that Suarez’s cousin Gianluca Frances, 19, said, “It’s going to come to light whoever truly did it,” as investigators continued a manhunt for the attacker.
Ongoing Investigation and Next Steps
NYPD said it was using every tool at its disposal in the investigation, including K-9 units, scuba teams, drones, and a Crime Stoppers truck, as detectives continued canvassing for clues. The NYPD spokesperson reported numerous special teams out canvassing the area for clues, including the Brooklyn South Detective Squad, Scuba and Aviation teams, K9 officers, and drones. People said the NYPD urged anyone who may have seen Suarez between 7:56 p.m. and 8:12 p.m. in the vicinity of the eastbound bike path along the Belt Parkway between Bay 8 Street and Bay 17 Street to come forward.
