STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Staten Island residents can expect breezy and seasonably cool conditions Friday with mainly clear skies giving way to increasing clouds by afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service, temperatures will reach the upper 40s to around 50 degrees with winds gradually diminishing on Friday night.
The National Weather Service forecast indicates winds from the west-northwest will be noticeable today, with gusts possible through the afternoon. As high pressure builds from the southwest tonight, winds will relax significantly, allowing for patchy frost in some areas as temperatures drop into the 30s. While no frost advisories have been issued, sensitive plants may need protection in cooler spots.
Saturday will start dry and calm with high pressure overhead, according to the National Weather Service. Clouds will increase throughout the day as temperatures moderate to the lower and middle 50s. Rain showers are expected to develop Saturday evening as a warm front approaches, followed by a cold front early Sunday morning. Rainfall amounts will range from one to two tenths of an inch, with some areas possibly receiving up to half an inch.
Sunday will turn blustery after morning showers end, with clearing skies and gusty west winds up to 35 mph developing by midday. Temperatures will remain near or slightly above normal with partly cloudy conditions developing during the afternoon.
Looking ahead to next week, Monday will continue the breezy pattern before winds diminish Monday night. Seasonably cool temperatures will persist through midweek with mainly dry conditions expected. A warm front may approach the area Thursday or Thursday night, bringing the next chance for precipitation.
