Phil Taitt has more on Gov. Hochul’s victory.

New York voters didn’t just return Gov. Kathy Hochul to office Tuesday night. They also made history.

With Hochul’s reelection and the election of Adrienne Adams as lieutenant governor, New York will have its first all-female statewide executive leadership team. Hochul, who became New York’s first female governor in 2021, secured a second full term after defeating Republican challenger Bruce Blakeman.

The historic milestone comes after Hochul and Adams campaigned as a ticket and frequently highlighted the opportunity to make history together. Hochul won by roughly 20 points statewide, running up large margins in New York City.

During her victory speech, Hochul reflected on her leadership and thanked voters for their support.

“Serving you has taught me that leadership isn’t about just having the courage to make the tough calls… it’s about the humility to go through it all and I answer to you, the people of New York!” Hochul said.

The result ensures that, for the first time in state history, New York’s top two executive offices will both be held by women.
