The hunt continues for the package thief who beat a Brooklyn apartment building superintendent to death during a confrontation, as police said Friday that they released the lone person of interest who was questioned.

Police were initially called to the Ocean Avenue building in Flatbush for a report of an attack in the lobby around 8 a.m. Wednesday. Responding officers found 41-year-old Burim Havolli with trauma to his head.

He was taken to a hospital in critical condition, and later died of his injuries, according to his family. The medical examiner’s office will confirm exactly how he died.

According to neighbors, Havolli was the building’s superintendent, and he was attacked as he tried to stop a suspect from stealing packages from the lobby.

The fight leading to Havolli’s death concerned those living in the neighborhood, some of whom say the area is getting more dangerous.

Meanwhile, the victim’s family was stunned that their hard-working loved one, who they say was respected in the building and in the neighborhood, was killed while doing his job.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether police had any new leads Friday. Their investigation is ongoing.
