A Bronx section of the Bronx River Parkway will close during the overnights this weekend, Nov. 14 through Nov. 17, for work that’s connected to plans to create four new Bronx Metro-North stations to extend the MTA’s New Haven line to Penn Station.

It’s called the Penn Station Access Project, and the Metropolitan Transit Authority said its weekend work involves pulling overhead signal cables above the Bronx River Parkway.

Detours will be in place. Vehicles traveling north on the parkway will take Exit 4 and follow the detour to reenter via the Pelham Parkway. Vehicles traveling south on the parkway will take Exit 7E and follow the detour to reenter via E. 174th St.

The parkway will be closed from:

11 p.m. Friday to 6 a.m. Saturday

Midnight Monday to 5 a.m. Monday

“We will continue to update the community on traffic pattern changes as work progresses in the coming months, the MTA said. “We appreciate your understanding and patience while we advance this vital transit equity project.”

An MTA news release said the Penn Station Access Project “will create a one-seat ride from the East Bronx, Westchester, and Connecticut to Penn Station, significantly cutting down travel times for tens of thousands of commuters.”

The plan is also for 19 miles of new and rehabilitated track along Amtrak’s Hell Gate Line to give Amtrak riders faster and more reliable service.
