Last night, on November 13, Galerie and Peter Callahan hosted a private dinner in New York to celebrate the holiday season. The evening saw friends of the magazine gather at Carton House—the newly introduced event space that Callahan created out of his longtime prep kitchen—for an intimate affair that highlighted his artful approach to hospitality and entertaining.

Cocktail hour kicked off as guests enjoyed conversations over a specialty cocktail fittingly named the Galerie Spritz—a seasonally inspired beverage featuring Italicus and prosecco served with dried citrus garnishes in vintage coupes—and a collection of small bites that Callahan cooked up for the occasion. Servers offered truffle grilled cheese, smoked salmon pigs in a blanket with wasabi caviar, traditional pigs in a blanket with a mustard dot, figs with chèvre and blue honey, roasted sunchoke tartlets with black truffle, and halibut on pea cakes topped with mango salsa.

Guests mingled around rosy gold mirrored tables glowing with tapered candles while appreciating the scenery. Callahan’s wife, Joanna, collaborated with Broadway artisans to create trompe l’oeil paneling and boldly painted floors that transformed the former Jive Records studio into a richly atmospheric setting. Tables were set with lavish serving ware that Callahan designed and sells through Bergdorf Goodman.

Everyone took their seats as Galerie editor in chief Jacqueline Terrebonne welcomed the festive crowd. “We’re so excited to be here with Peter Callahan tonight,” she said. “He truly elevates food and entertaining to an art form.” Callahan echoed that sentiment: “The evening was rooted in the belief we share with Galerie that life should be lived artfully. With holiday party season upon us, I wanted to design a memorable experience that kicks things off on a sophisticated yet unpretentious note. I love to create moments that are surprising, playful, and spark conversation.”

Guests experienced that sense of whimsy at dinner, which began with caviar and potato mousseline presented in porcelain bowls shaped like baked potato skins. Platters followed with whole dorade finished with lemon beurre blanc—served with a two-piece fish head and tail set that Callahan designed—and T-bone steak brushed with red wine reduction, along with haricot vert, squash fondant, and corn polenta medallions with tomato confit. Dessert arrived as a tarte tatin à la mode served with dollops of cotton candy and gold ice cream spoons.

As dinner drew to a close, Callahan surprised the room with a New Orleans favorite: Café Brûlot, a boozy after-dinner coffee served tableside in a flaming pour. Guests departed with gift bags stocked with a Peter Callahan–designed gold serving bowl shaped as a chanterelle mushroom and a copy of Galerie’s new Collectors Issue.

“The night was a wonderful celebration of what Lisa and Jacqueline have created with Galerie,” Callahan continued. “Together with luminaries from the art and design communities, we had one of those rare New York nights where the conversation was inspiring and the kinship in the room was palpable. It was a real joy to create that experience for everyone.”
