One of the leading bids to open a casino in New York City may have hit a major roadblock.
The plan put forth by Mets owner Steve Cohen puts the proposed Metropolitan Park casino on an existing parking lot by Citi Field, which is owned by the city and leased to the U.S. Tennis Association (USTA), which owns and operates a nearby tennis center.

The city had been getting ready to sign off on a deal to lease part of the parking lot to a group led by Cohen.
In a statement to NY1, a spokesperson for the Metropolitan Park project said, “We disagree with the opinion and are reviewing our options.”
The Metropolitan Park project is one of three casino proposals still in the running for up to three downstate casino licenses that will be issued by the state.
Other contenders include Bally’s bid for a spot in the Bronx, and a proposal to expand Resorts World in South Ozone Park into a full-service casino.
On Monday, the state-appointed board tasked with issuing recommendations for new casino licenses will be making on-site visits to all three locations.
