New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says multiple people have been shot tonight in Newark’s South Ward.
“Preliminary details indicate that multiple victims were shot and killed, including a child,” Murphy wrote on X.
New Jersey Transit says on its X page that one of its buses is operating on a detour in Newark and that Chancellor Avenue is closed between Aldene Street and Wainwright Street “due to police activity.”
When reached for comment, the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office would only say, “This is an active and ongoing investigation. No additional details are available at this time.”
