New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd has been critically wounded in a shooting in Midtown Manhattan, according to police and multiple law-enforcement sources cited by The New York Post.
The incident occurred shortly after 02:00 local time on West 38th Street near Seventh Avenue. Police have not publicly identified Boyd as the victim, but sources told The Post that the 27-year-old was shot in the abdomen outside the Sei Less restaurant after a dispute escalated.
The gunman reportedly fired two shots before fleeing the scene in a BMW X8 SUV. Witnesses were said to be uncooperative with officers.
Boyd was taken to Bellevue Hospital, where he is in a critical but stable condition. Sources said he drifted in and out of consciousness before being transported for treatment.
No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing.
Boyd, who joined the Jets this year, previously played for the Minnesota Vikings, the Arizona Cardinals and the Houston Texans. He is currently on the team’s injured reserve list.
The Jets are not scheduled to play on Sunday following their defeat to the New England Patriots on Thursday night.
