Repast Baroque (photo; left to right: Stephanie Corwin, baroque bassoon; Gabe Shuford, harpsichord; Sarah Abigael Stone, cello and viola da gamba; and Natalie Rose Kress, violin) will return to Brooklyn Heights this coming Sunday, November 23, for the second concert in their 2025-26 season, which has the theme “Literary Circles.” The subject of this concert is “Science Fiction – The Music of the Spheres”; it “explores themes of novelty and innovation from the 16th-century philosophy of Music of the Spheres to Science Fiction and technology of our modern age.” For this concert Repast will be joined by Ensemble Ipse, “a contemporary music ensemble dedicated to showcasing the variety of practices in the current new music scene.” The program will begin with Monteverdi’s 17th century madrigal Sfogava con stelle, a “love sick cry to the stars,” then will proceed with classical and contemporary music. Among the contemporary composers represnted will be Joseph Di Ponio, husband of Repast bassoonist Stephanie Corwin. There’s more information here.

Because of the number of musicians involved, the concert will be held in the sanctuary of the First Unitarian Congregational Society, Brooklyn, instead of the smaller McKinney Chapel where Repast has had previous concerts. Enter at 121 Pierrepont Street, near the corner of Monroe Place. The concert begins at 4:00 PM. You may buy tickets here.
