NEW YORK (PIX11) – President Donald Trump and New York City Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani may be meeting soon at the White House.
Trump was speaking to reporters as he was leaving Florida for the White House on Sunday, signaling plans to meet Mamdani. The president has previously called Mamdani a communist, supported his opponent, former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, and even threatened to deport him on Truth Social.
Mamdani said last week he was looking to meet with Trump, emphasizing that the relationship could be critical to the success of the city.
“The mayor of New York, I will say, would like to meet with us, and we’ll work something out,” Trump said. “We want to see everything work out well for New York.”
Representatives for both politicians said a date or agenda hasn’t been set for the meeting.

New York City’s mayoral election, as well as Democrats elected as governors in New Jersey and Virginia, were largely seen as a rebuke of Trump and his policies.
“They use the word affordability, and the affordability is much, much better with us,” Trump said. “A Thanksgiving meal and surroundings are 25% lower than it was under the Biden administration.”
