New York Jets star Kris Boyd had left a Manhattan restaurant ‘feeling a bad vibe’ just moments before being shot outside on the street.

Boyd is said to be in a ‘good condition’ after being shot twice in the abdomen in New York City in the early hours of Sunday morning, with his close friend revealing a positive update after his injuries were initially thought to be life-threatening.

Boyd had been with two other unnamed Jets players at Sei Less Midtown South in Manhattan before individuals in two cars had pulled up, shot at the NFL star before fleeing the scene.

According to the New York Post, Boyd told police that he and his Jets teammates had left the restaurant because of the vibe while sensing tension with another group of individuals who were arguing among themselves.

Police have footage of a car with Michigan plates driving out of a garage and crashing into the barrier before an individual fired round at – two hitting Boyd.

His close friend and former Texas Longhorns coach, who was not at the incident but has spoken to Boyd, has said: “He’s all good right now. He’s in good condition. He’s doing real good. He’s a soldier, through tough times. He’s fine… he’s fine.”

Speaking to CBS Sports, a spokesperson from the Jets said: “We are aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd and will have no further comment at this time.”

An NYPD spokesman had added: “A 29-year-old male (Jets player Kris Boyd) is in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital after sustaining a gunshot to the abdomen. No arrests; investigation is ongoing.”

Boyd had signed with the Jets this past offseason while in his seventh year in the league, speaking about how excited he was to continue playing in the NFL while moving to New York.

He said: “I’m thankful for sure. You know, any opportunity is a great opportunity. And to be here in New York, New York is a great place. This opportunity, I’m very appreciative of it.

“I was excited. It still don’t feel real right now. I think I need another day or two. Probably get in the locker room, get around the guys. I actually look forward to that. But overall, man, it’s been a blessing. I can’t complain.”

Boyd remains in hospital at this time.
