New York Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Coronel will depart the club when his contract expires this winter, sources briefed on the situation tell The Athletic.

Talks between the club and Coronel over a new deal did not reach an agreement and the parties will part ways. Coronel is out of contract at the end of December and is eligible for MLS free agency.

Coronel, 28, made 180 appearances for RBNY, an anchor for the club’s playoff run to reach MLS Cup last winter, where they fell to the LA Galaxy. He made 31 MLS appearances during the 2025 season.

The Paraguayan international has nine caps for his country, starting the first six matches in World Cup qualifying. Paraguay secured qualification to the 2026 World Cup in September.

The Red Bulls acquired veteran goalkeeper John McCarthy from the LA Galaxy this summer and gave him a new contract. They also have 26-year-old AJ Marcucci in their goalkeeping ranks, as well as highly-rated U.S. youth international Aidan Stokes.

Stokes, 17, was the starter for the United States at the U-17 World Cup this month. Following that tournament, Stokes travelled to RB Leipzig for a training stint.

The Red Bulls finished 10th in the Eastern Conference this season, missing the playoffs for the first time since 2009.
