New York Jets cornerback Kris Boyd was critically injured in a shooting in Manhattan early Sunday morning, authorities said.
The shooting occurred just after 2 a.m. on West 38th Street near 7th Avenue, according to the New York City Police Department, the Associated Press reports. Police reported a 29-year-old male – later identified by Mayor Eric Adams’ office as Boyd – was shot in the abdomen.
Boyd, 29, is currently in critical but stable condition at Bellevue Hospital, per the AP.
Police have released surveillance images of the suspect and are seeking more information. No arrests have been made and the investigation is ongoing, NYPD said.
Boyd was shot outside Sei Less restaurant after a dispute turned violent, with the gunman firing two shots, according to the New York Post.

“I am praying for New York Jets player Kris Boyd and his loved ones,” Adams wrote in a post to X on Sunday. “Although we’ve gotten shootings to historic lows in our city, we must continue to work to end gun violence. Too many young lives have been tragically altered and cut short by this epidemic.”
A representative for the Jets said the team was “aware of the situation involving Kris Boyd” but had “no further comment at this time.”
Boyd is in his seventh NFL season and first with the Jets, but was placed on season-ending injured reserve in August due to a shoulder injury. The shooting occurred days after the Jets’ 27-14 loss at the New England Patriots on “Thursday Night Football.”
Prior to signing with New York in March, Boyd played his first four NFL seasons with the Minnesota Vikings and past two split with the Arizona Cardinals and Houston Texans.
