UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) — Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a total of $10 million available through New York State’s Companion Animal Capital Fund to support infrastructure upgrades at animal shelters, rescues and humane societies.
This includes $1 million specifically for organizations not under municipal contracts.
In May, the Humane Society of Rome received $500,000 to enhance its facilities with new dog enclosures, isolation rooms and cat enclosures.
More than $10.4 million has been awarded to 30 animal care organizations across New York State through the Companion Animal Capital Fund.
Since 2017, the State has allocated over $48 million to this program, funding 161 projects across New York.
Applications for the current round are due by 4 p.m. on Jan. 30, 2026.
