Accolades were on the menu for some of the country’s best restaurants last night.

The Michelin Guide announced the 2025 selection for the Northeast Cities at a ceremony in Philadelphia on Tuesday evening, adding that Boston and Philadelphia would be covered in the regional guide for the first time, alongside existing metropolises Chicago, New York, and Washington, D.C. The selection includes 664 restaurants, with the famous stars reserved for establishments serving exceptional cuisine and the green star awarded to venues that push the boundaries of gastronomy.

Of the New York restaurants, chef Keiji Nakazawa’s omakase-centric Sushi Sho was promoted to three stars. “In the shadow of the New York Public Library, chef Keiji Nakazawa exemplifies mastery of the highest order,” the Michelin inspector notes. “His omakase is utterly unique.” Chef Shin Chang-ho’s buzzy Korean restaurant Joo Ok jumped from one to two stars. Exciting newcomer Muku and Top Chef alum Buddha Lo’s Huso were awarded one star, along with Chinatown hotspot Bridges and kaiseki joint Yamada.

In Chicago, Tim Flores and Genie Kwon’s Filipino-American favorite Kasama was upgraded to two stars, while fancy farm-to-table eatery Feld earned one star and a green star. Over in Boston, chef  Wei Fa Chen’s Three 1 One received the city’s first and only star. Philly had a total of four honorees, with Friday Saturday Sunday, Her Place Supper Club, and Provenance receiving one star and Pietramala gaining a green star. No new restaurants were announced at any star level in Washington, D.C.

“We are thrilled to celebrate the first-ever selections in both Boston and Philadelphia and welcome several new restaurants into the Michelin star family,” Gwendal Poullennec, international director of the Michelin Guide, said at last night’s ceremony. “Our anonymous inspectors were able to witness and taste the passion these industry professionals brought to the table.”

Not everyone will be celebrating Michelin’s recent changes, though. Last week, Alinea in Chicago, Masa in New York, and the Inn at Little Washington in D.C. were demoted from three stars to two. Alinea and Masa earned three stars in 2009 and 2010, respectively, maintaining Michelin’s highest honor for well over a decade. The Inn at Little Washington scored top honors in 2018, becoming the inaugural three-star restaurant in D.C. Michelin said in a statement that “the inspectors look forward to revisiting Alinea, The Inn at Little Washington, and Masa, and ascertaining any evolution for future selections.”
