Two men are under arrest in New Jersey, accused of trying to steal items from a mailbox.

Police say two people were caught in the act taking items out of a mailbox, at the Maywood Post Office.

The mailbox is located on West Pleasant Avenue right out in front of the post office.

The box is covered and out of service as a result.

The mailbox has been breached by thieves on three separate occasions within the past 24 days.

At around 4:30 a.m. on Tuesday, the most recent theft attempt happened.

The thieves were caught on camera going into the box using a mailbox key. That is something only certain postal workers are supposed to have.

They were also caught on camera on November 14. They appear to be going after checks and personal documents. They target anything with personal information that they can use for identity theft.

Suspects stealing checks have ways of altering the checks so that they can be deposited into accounts that have been set up for fraud.

The earliest incident happened back on October 27.

Two men from the Bronx were caught and are now facing charges of identity theft and mail fraud.

Enyer Portes-Herrera, 22, and Justin Gonzalez-Morel, 18, were allegedly in possession of the stolen mail at the time of their arrests.

“It’s very sad that people need to do that,” said Joann Geaziano, a Maywood resident. “They need to think about it twice because there should be penalties for that and hopefully they’re caught, it’s not right.”

If you put any mail in the mailbox at the post office in the past several days to keep an eye on your accounts and check with your financial institutions to see if there is anything
suspicious.
