An online support program for students at South Park and Burgard high schools will shut down.

The Buffalo Board of Education approved a resolution to close Pathways Academy at the end of this school year.

The decision follows what the district said is a comprehensive review of the academy.

“Students districtwide who are enrolled in the Pathways Academy receive an online education at either South Park or Burgard High Schools,” a statement from the district read. “These students are working to stay on track to meet graduation requirements. The district has determined that the closure of Pathways Academy is in alignment with its strategic goals to optimize resources, improve student outcomes, and ensure equitable access to high-quality educational opportunities for all.”

The BPS started Pathways in 2016 to help students who were short on credits or were missing the required number of courses to graduate.

The district said it plans to implement a detailed transition plan to make sure any students currently enrolled in Pathways Academy will have the necessary placement and support for next fall.
