1. DHS: Federal immigration authorities make arrest on Canal Street
Federal immigration authorities made an arrest on Canal Street Saturday, according to the Department of Homeland Security.
DHS officials said Abdou Tall, an immigrant from Senegal with “multiple arrests relating to trafficking counterfeit merchandise,” was taken into custody after fleeing agents. The arrest — captured on video — prompted backlash from local officials and advocates, coming amid a recent wave of ICE operations citywide.
