Wednesday will be even milder with scattered rain showers. Highs in the 50s to possibly near 60 for some.

It’ll turn blustery and much colder for Thanksgiving as lake effect snow develops also. Steadier lake effect snow on Thursday will be east of Lake Ontario while scattered snow showers off Lake Erie will pepper parts of CNY, the Finger Lakes and Southern Tier throughout the day.

Highs on Thursday will only be in the 30s to near 40, but a blustery WSW wind with gust of 30-50 mph will make it feel more like the 20s throughout the day.

1. Number of children dying from flu in New York continues to rise

New York State Health Commissioner Dr. James McDonald emphasized that the most important way to prepare for flu season is to get vaccinated. He noted the flu tends to be a little different every year. This year, according to the CDC, the most frequently reported virus is the H3N2 strain.

2. Sticker Mule CEO Anthony Constantino running for Stefanik’s House seat in 2026

Constantino joins state Assemblyman Robert Smullen as declared candidates seeking the Republican nomination for the seat in the House of Representatives.

3. State funds to aid in building supportive housing for homeless

About $125 million in state funding will create 645 units of permanent supportive, transitional and emergency housing, creating nearly 1,000 beds for people experiencing homelessness. There were 13 projects awarded across all regions of the state, including Central New York, Southern Tier, Western New York, New York City, the Capital Region and the Finger Lakes region.  

4. SUNY students getting paid to serve their campuses

At Tompkins Cortland Community College, there are students giving back by stocking pantry shelves and thrift store shelves or offering mental health support. It’s a paid job for them, but it assists their campus community through the Empire State Service Corps.

5. Val Bialas Ski Center upgrades snow-making equipment

Improvements are underway at Utica’s Val Bialas Ski Center with the installation of new snow-making equipment. The $2 million project will also help the ski lift operate year-round.

6. Russian attacks kill at least 7, as Ukrainian official says Kyiv has agreed to ‘core terms’ of U.S. peace plan

Russia launched a wave of attacks on Ukraine’s capital, Kyiv, overnight, with at least seven people killed in strikes that hit city buildings and energy infrastructure. A Ukrainian attack on southern Russia killed three people and damaged homes, authorities said.
