STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Seeking nostalgia and family warmth this Thanksgiving? Consider sitting down with the family for a viewing of the timeless 1934 Laurel and Hardy classic “March of the Wooden Soldiers”
Set in Toyland, the film unfolds in a town inhabited by various fairytale characters like Little Bo Peep, Tom Tom, and the Three Little Pigs.
The film, also called “Babes in Toyland,’’ follows toymakers Stannie Dum and Ollie Dee as they work to rescue Bo Peep from the villain Silas Barnaby, who blackmails Mother Peep for her mortgage payment in an attempt to get Bo Peep to marry him.
The two face challenges as they cleverly seek help from friends like the Three Little Pigs and Mickey Mouse to save the day.
The film features Stan Laurel, Oliver Hardy, Charlotte Henry, Felix Knight, Henry Kleinbach, Florence Roberts, and Virginia Karns.
WPIX New York will broadcast the movie twice on Thanksgiving Day at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
At 9 a.m., the original black-and-white version will be aired. At 3 p.m., the colorized version, a tradition in New York since 1963, will be aired.
