STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Black Friday has dawned on Staten Island, and we’ll be hitting the stores to capture the deals and the energy as shoppers hunt for holiday bargains.
Baby, it’s cold out there. Temps hovered at 33 degrees but the real feel around 5:30 a.m. was 23 degrees. (Owen Reiter for the Advance/SILive.com)Owen Reiter
Advance/SILive.com Food Editor Pamela Silvestri and photographer Owen Reiter will be in the aisles, checkout lines, and parking lots to tell the stories of Staten Islanders out and about on the biggest shopping day of the year.

About 100 people were in line this morning at the Target in Charleston as Black Friday shopping kicked off, according to photographer Owen Reiter.
Major retailers opened their doors early Friday, with several big-box stores welcoming customers starting at 5 a.m. or 6 a.m.
According to online hours, Kohl’s led the pack, opening at 5 a.m. Target, Best Buy, Macy’s, Home Depot, Lowe’s, and Ulta all opened at 6 a.m.
My fine colleague Owen Reiter spoke with Angel Quintan just before 6 a.m. at Target in Charleston.
Quintan shared, “I got here at 11:20 last night. It’s been cold all night…really cold. I had to go to ShopRite to get warm, then come back and use the bathroom. You know, it’s been really tough, but we made it.”
Owen asked him, “What made you decide to get here and be first in line?”
Quintan shared, “All the TikToks—all the TikToks I’ve been seeing, everybody promoting.“
In the meantime, T.J. Maxx and HomeGoods will open slightly later at 7 a.m.
Costco was closed for Thanksgiving but will reopen at 9 a.m., according to its website.
By dawn at 6:58 a.m., Staten Island will wake up to clear skies but frigid conditions and temps will hover at 31 degrees. Today will be about 44 degrees at the high with wind gusts pushing 20 mph by 10 a.m.
