STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A small burst of winter weather is on its way for Staten Island next week — but you won’t need to get your shovels out just yet, according to forecasters.

A storm system will move quickly over the New York City area on Tuesday, Dec. 2, leading to a wintry mix of snow and rain for much of the day, AccuWeather.com senior meteorologist Carl Erickson told the Advance/SILive.com.

“It doesn’t look like a lot of snow, given the storm track, but as we go into Tuesday, especially toward daybreak, there’s probably just enough cold air in place to have some wet snow mixing in, then rain for a couple of hours on Tuesday morning,” said Erickson.

Given most of the precipitation will occur early Tuesday, commuters could expect some reduced visibility during the morning rush hour — which could be just enough to slow down vehicles on the roads. But roadways should be clear of ice and snow, Erickson said.

The AccuWeather Wintercast calls for rain and snow to mostly begin around 10 a.m. and end around 1 p.m., with little to no accumulation expected. The mercury will rise to a high temperature of 41 degrees.

“At this point, it looks like temperatures are going to be too warm for much accumulation,” Erickson said. “It would probably be fairly brief, that mixing looks to be primarily just a chilly rain throughout the day on Tuesday after that brief mix at the onset.”

Since it’s a fast-moving storm, it is expected to clear out by Tuesday night.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for some sun and clouds, with a high of 40 degrees, according to AccuWeather.com.
