New York Jets player Kris Boyd issued a concerning update on his health after announcing he was back in the hospital after being shot in Manhattan earlier this month.

The former Houston Texans and Minnesota Vikings special teams standout was hospitalized in the early hours of Nov. 16 after a gunman shot him in the abdomen. The incident happened outside the trendy venue Sei Less in Midtown South, and the shooter fled the scene.

The 29-year-old, who was left in a critical condition by the shooting, shared a series of updates from his hospital bed before he was released a few days later after having surgery to have the bullet removed, but on Friday, he revealed that he was back in the care of medics.

Boyd raised fans’ concerns over his condition with a post on Instagram. He wrote: “I need you Father God. This one bout to be Legendary,” adding a praying emoji.

The post came shortly after the seven-year NFL veteran confirmed he had returned to the hospital. He told followers: “I was released but had to return to the hospital due to my health issues.”

He continued: “I love and appreciate every one of y’all dearly who has prayed/reached out, even if I can’t get back to you,” and in another post, the Texas alum added: “Head HIGH, God is not through with me yet!”

Jets head coach Aaron Glenn addressed Boyd’s condition during his media availability on Friday. He told reporters: “Well, the last that we heard is he had an issue and he had to go back into the hospital. But other than that, I need to figure that out.”

Before sharing news of his setback on Friday, Boyd had posted a series of updates on his health from his hospital bed. “I’m sorry I have no words at the moment,” Boyd wrote in one update on Nov. 18. “Just grateful! I’m coming along, starting to breathe on my own now. Sincerely appreciate everyone!”

Defensive back Boyd was drafted in the seventh round by the Vikings in 2019 and has gone on to be an impactful player on special teams, particularly during his two-year stay with the Texans.
