Fall Fantastical, other fundraising

The Abilene High School Singers are honored to have been accepted into the Manhattan Concert Productions Octavo Choral Series again this year.

Led by their teacher, Danette Whiteley, they will travel to New York City in March to collaborate with other elite student vocalists around the country.

They will work on six musical selections with renowned guest conductor Brandon Boyd and their trip will culminate with a concert at the historic Carnegie Hall where they will perform.

During their five day trip, Whiteley has organized their time away from the theater to allow for cultural enrichment site-seeing trips to explore the city.

The Singers plan to visit the Statue of Liberty, the 9/11 Memorial, see a Broadway musical and many other sites.

This will be the Abilene High School Singers ninth trip to perform at Carnegie Hall.

In order to participate, the students must each raise more than $2,000.

•  One of those fundraisers will occur during the “Fall Fantastical” concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21 in the Abilene High School Auditorium.

During the first half of the concert, attendees will hear from the Singers as well as the entire Abilene High and Middle School choirs.

After the intermission, which offers concessions for purchase, concert goers will hear acts specially prepared by individual Singers or small groups of them!

This event costs $10 for adults and $5 for students and proceeds from the tickets and concessions go toward the Singers’ trip to Carnegie Hall. Children five years old and younger are free.

Tickets can be pre-purchased from all members of the AHS Singers or at the door.

•  Another way to support the AHS Singers is to hire them to sing for your holiday event!

They have experience singing holiday songs for churches, business Christmas parties, civic and patriotic events and more.

If you are interested in booking the AHS Singers for a holiday event, please reach out to Danette Whiteley at 785-280-2347 or dwhiteley@abileneschools.org.  You won’t be disappointed!

The Singers, under the direction of Whitley, have won district and state competitions and are stellar performers.
