MORRISONVILLE, N.Y. (WCAX) – Authorities say a turkey fryer was to blame for a Thanksgiving fire in the North Country that displaced a family of six.
It happened Thursday afternoon at a home on Brookside Avenue in Morrisonville.
Morrisonville Fire Chief Mike Recore said the blaze ignited in the garage.
All six family members and their cat escaped without injuries.
Recore said the incident serves as a reminder that propane fryers should always be used outside.
“Make sure you are out paying attention to what is going on, even when it’s heating up, because you know, flame and grease is never a good combination. So, we need to be careful when we are doing that,” Recore said.
The Red Cross is helping the displaced family with housing, food and clothing.
