STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The St. George Theatre will host “A Rock’n Holiday Spectacular” on Friday, Dec. 5, marking the first Staten Island performance by The DooWop Project.

The DooWop Project draws inspiration from inner city African American vocal groups including The Del Vikings, The Marcels, The Tymes, and later The Four Seasons. The group captures the classic sounds of vocalists who harmonized on stoops, in subways, and on street corners.

The evening will also feature Bobby Wilson, son of Jackie Wilson, along with The Coasters, Vito Picone & The Elegants, The Chiclettes, and Sounds of the Streets. Staten Island native Vinnie Medugno will host the show. Medugno hosts a nationally syndicated radio program on Music Radio 77 WABC every Saturday at 5 p.m.

The Coda Band will provide musical backing for the performers. The group consists of professional musicians with up to 30 years of experience in the entertainment industry. The band has previously worked with Bobby Rydell, Frankie Avalon, Darlene Love, The Drifters, Lou Christie, Lesley Gore, and The Delfonics.

The annual holiday concert is part of the Malt Shop LIVE Series, which connects to Star Vista’s Malt Shop Memories Cruise.

Tickets start at $39 and can be purchased at stgeorgetheatre.com/events/a-rockn-holiday-spectacular or by calling the St. George Theatre Box Office at 718-442-2900. The box office is open Tuesday through Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at 35 Hyatt St.

The 1,900-seat St. George Theatre opened in 1929 and features Spanish and Italian Baroque-style architecture. The venue has hosted Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Ringo Starr, and other notable performers.
